Salem Youth Baseball relies on volunteers to keep this program running. To ensure that everyone contributes to the volunteer hours necessary to run the league the following volunteer program is being implemented starting this year with the 2019 Spring Season. Each family will be responsible for fulfilling 4 hours of volunteer service per registered player or can pay a $75 per player Buyout fee. This fee will cover both Tag Day requirements and Volunteer hours. The deposit will be refunded at the completion of the season and/or on verification that all volunteer hours have been 100% complete. Volunteer hours will be available as follows;
Game Day Volunteer Hours
Each team will have 5 hours to distribute at each home game (6 regular season games):
Maintenance – 2 parents 1 hour credit per game
2 parents must arrive one hour before first pitch, to prepare field for game play, may include; raking, lining field, and other light duties as needed to get the field ready for play. Monday Night all trash needs to be brought up for pick up. Tuesday afternoon the barrels need to be brought back down. This will be expected of you as the day’s Maintenance team. 1 hour will be credited to each parent for each game.
Official Scorekeeper - 1 parent 2 hours credit per game
Ability to follow game and keep track of each pitch. Score will be kept on the Game Changer app, which must be downloaded to your smartphone. Scorekeeper will be official pitch count tracker.
Game Photographer – 1 parent 1 hour credit per game
Take pictures of game, trying to capture the best moments. 1 hour credit per game, but be creative and take as many pictures as you want. Pictures will need to be uploaded to share site for viewing within 24 hours of game completion.
Concession Stand Volunteer Hours
2 weeknights and Saturday AM the concession stand will be run by our volunteers;
3 parents per weeknight – 4 hour credit (5-Closing)
2 parents to work cash register, clean and stock, as needed and one parent to sign up as Chef to help cook chicken fingers, Burgers, Hot Dogs. Clean up, bathroom and trash duty for all volunteers.
2 TBall Parents Saturday AM – 4 hour credit (8-12)
2 parents to help open stand, work cash register, stock and clean as needed
Various Volunteer Duties
Field clean up days
Lawn mowing (inquire if available)
Foul weather field clean up assistance
Special Event assistance, ie; Tag Day, Opening Day, Fisher Cats game, Championship Night, etc.
Busy schedule and cannot help us out with volunteer hours this season? We offer a $75 buyout option and you will not be required to complete the volunteer hours or Tag Day. We do, however, ask that you please have your child participate in Tag Day if you can.
Sign up process for Volunteer assignments is being finalized and when information is available all will be informed. The process will likely involve online sign-ups. All volunteer hours will be assigned on a First Come First Served basis. Sign up quickly to ensure you get slots that work best for you.
Due to the endless hours committed to our program by our coaches and Board Members, the 4 hour Volunteer requirement is waived for these individuals.
